When I was going through the school system. Various teachers would be nuns, dressed in their habits of grey and white trim. Private schools for young girls in England They were human first, not always kind, or patient, they commanded attention, order, and constituency. The school I was in had a church attached, so church services were a regular occurrence, and in those days it was performed in Latin. As years went on.. they then started wearing street clothes and only keeping their collar and head scarf on. At least that was what was happening in Montreal in the 1970' Nun clothes and only keeping their collar and head scarf on. It wasn’t at all influencing on our decision making to be a nun by being taught by nuns. Not for me anyway. Granted I wanted to be one for 5 minutes at age 10 when I was in the school that had a church attached. But after experiencing the lack of answers to my questions and curiosity only grew, where I deduced that they misrepresented some the stories they were telling and the meaning behind them in solemn contradiction. The fantasy veil had been lifted.
The conformity to some things just contained no logic for me. Especially about girls and how our role was seen in society. Didn’t sit right with me. I have never ever been the quiet girl in the corner waiting for permission to speak. After all I spent my after school days playing with boys in trees forts, and rock climbing, war games, and make believe. I had the right imagination that was needed to conqueror our opposition rendering us hero’s in our made up scenes. It taught me to be myself, fearless. I was the King of the castle in make believe land. Why would I make myself small for you?!
In my early 20’s I went through a stage, a thirst for knowledge and I chose to dissect religion, its purpose, understanding the history of it all. After I finished my readings. I was heartbroken and declared myself atheist and let go of childish fantasies of the roman catholic faith. I rejected it all for its barbaric ways they treated each other with such righteousness. Mortified by the lengths folks will go in the name of their religion. Add in political Muslims in the mix and we’re back to danger. They are prepared to die and take us with them. In the name of….
There are other ways to find faith, gratitude and light. You don’t have to identify with the various choices of religious affiliations. I see it quite simply, ' to each their own'. However it’s highly offensive if your choices do harm on to others’. We may never think the same. But, ‘Do no harm’ should be mutual in its understanding, our vow. We can all take care of our own souls, so beak out.Let’s fast forward to today. We will start with how Government. federal, let in various cultures. To immigrate into Canadian society. Some cultures are attached to their religion. That isn’t anything new.. . Just different. By society should of learned better then to judge a book by it’s cover. (Or is it just Government and their followers putting on pressure to have things their way).
Yes the colour of their skin, their clothing, their country of origin is different. But they are adopted in neighbors now, declared Quebec Canadians, tax payers, we all count. We have rights and freedoms it's written in our constitution. (did you know Anglophone Quebecers, have been written out of the constitution the Canadian Constitution ?)
Our First Nations, and our black community still face obstacles based on their cover. (seriously) We don't live under a rocks.
Surely we are not a society built up on fear of indifference. Where does this end?!
Society has already a lot to atone for, for shunning folks based on their first glance. Judgments passed by the cover being different it shouldn’t instill insecurities!! But it does. Why does it draw out the worst of responses? Fear, Uncertainty. Or how about, just another self professing individual that wants everyone looking and thinking like them. If the thoughts you possess towards another due to their appearance and beliefs, that harm no one. Then the owner of those thoughts are indeed the problem. there is lots of 'you types' around and in our Government.
Canada is boasted for being a free and open society, diverse in cultures. Canadian values, which means embrace, acceptance, religious freedoms, linguistic rights, constitutional rights. Following the laws of the land. We Canadians are to help new Canadians who immigrated to become Canadians settle in and assimilate. Helping everyone find homes, jobs, clothes, shops, religious pray places, community organizations, offering kindness and support.
However, leaving
their conflicts in their former country already demonstrates that is a tall order to ask. Using our regions to protest in, waving their foreign flags. Yes! we have laws that say you can protest. Remember. You are walking a fine line, Don't forget that when you are climbing onto our buildings in Montreal, as an example, waving that foreign flag. Disrespect our regions again, you'll gain enemies not supporters. Watch yourselves. Welcome and good luck.
Quebec adopted the separation of state and church.
Which is fine. I agree.
What I don’t agree with is the clothing ban. As I said a lot of middle eastern cultures come with their religion attached. If we can sit through nuns teaching us. We can sit and listen to a Muslim teacher. They can’t mention any forms of religion in their teachings. But a head scarf, really? You think kids are that influenced. That they would romanticize becoming a Muslim? Is the fear?
In Quebec, we citizens are aware, of how severe the laws are. Designed to restrict citizens, new, young and old. If you don’t feel welcome here imagine how those who were born here feel?! Papa Legault, likens to abuse us citizens like we are his children. Autocratic.
Keep us all ignorant and living in a bubble. Oh the new norm you say... French only bubble. How normal is that?!! This is still Canada last time I checked. We don't live in bubbles. It is so un Canadian. We could be the leading province teaching all other provinces how bilingualism is done with our French vibe. But nooo, Govt. had to play the fear of extinction on a language in this province that it will never die. Well I assure you Francophones want to be learning another language for the sake of commerce. Then we should embrace bilingual languages and celebrate with everyone being French culture first and here are the rest. We all know who resents English heritages. But since 1649 it's been the history here in Montreal. What ever twisted way you want to link Federal Govt with an attack on French culture and self rule. That ownership is on your shoulders, as twisted as it is. Every province is different in cultures, but they don't try to silence the original descendants, they embrace them. Unlike Quebec. Insulting Canadians everyday with their bills and laws. They only thought for Govt CAQ is half of my heritage, half of me has rights. While the other half of my heritage is suppose to be faded out. Here's my middle finger to that nonsense.
There’s a new law coming soon that will have the new comers Bienvenue eh, to adhere to their values C.A.Q. what a joke. What do they know about values? bill 84
Let’s start with housing over 10.000 of us who are living homeless on our streets. Human life is giving Quebec citizens back life to value. As legislated by Govt. Oh I know they haven't even acknowledged yet that there is a homeless problem in Quebec. Strangely enough Valarie Plante has made an emotional pleas that fell on deaf ears. She even sobbed it all out in French and it didn't faze the National Assembly one eye iota.
That’s the thing with Autocratic Government, they have no heart or soul. They are all about molding, mapping, intricate, strategic, ideology to turn Quebec in to their modern image. Their claim goes far back to where it all started for New France in as far back as 1534. Claiming now these regions belong only to the French. If that doesn’t set your blood boiling. Nothing they do will surprise you then. As they wipe out your Canadian claim to this region and if you’re not French. (Well you are now.) Forget that you were Irish, or Scottish they’ve been incorporated into the French only history of Quebec. You never spoke English. That was a bad dream for the French.
Bill 21 is now in the supreme court. Lots of people are holding their breath. It could have a domino effect. It's highly considered illegal bill 21 with the notwithstanding clause it is trapped in upholding the affect. It is certainly keeping good citizens in a box, unable to work in a field they are more qualified for than the present teachers in our French school system. What a mess that is... What are the odds, justice could finally rear its head and side with tax paying citizens? It will help in the Task force www.thetaksforce.ca on Linguistic policy they are the non profit group that took bill 96 to court. they are against law 14… The notwithstanding clause goes against our Canadian constitution.
Amongst Anglophones from Quebec it’s adopted name is bill 96. It’s in court the Feds trying to get out oftheir part they played with Bill c 13. If you have been affected by bill 96 now Law 14 write your story to the Task Force they want to hear how this law effected your life.
The thing with groups. It’s not only a take action cause, but it’s also used for venting and fueling and cultivating negative releases. It’s exhausting. Split the pages up. One for venting, one for ideas, and executing action in activism.
Regardless of my views on groups, they have effectively executed their protests. Finding tax payers to engage and take part.
For the greater good.
